When our favorite Marvel superheroes make the jump from the page to the screen, there are often elements that remain in the short box during the transition. It could be little things like Steve Rogers hailing from Brooklyn instead of the Lower East Side of Manhattan or Daisy Johnson’s mother being a prostitute with an Inhuman lineage. On the other hand, bigger things may change such as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch’s powers being products of an Infinity Stone or Tony Stark creating Ultron. Either way, alterations are made are made all the time for a number of legal or creative reasons. They will continue to happen as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow and it looks like the next place we’ll be seeing it is on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ in regards to Ghost Rider.

Since it was announced at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con that the Spirit of Vengeance would be coming to ABC to interact with Agent Phil Coulson and his team, True Believers have had many questions. Many of them were answered right away when Gabriel Luna was revealed to be playing the Robbie Reyes version of the character. But some elements still remain a mystery. For instance, Daisy Johnson’s father Calvin Zabo AKA Mr. Hyde played an integral part in Reyes’ origin story. On ’S.H.I.E.L.D.’, Hyde is played by Kyle MacLachlan, but when we last saw the character, he seemed pretty harmless. Does this mean that he’ll revert to some of his more nefarious ways and make a comeback when the show returns this fall for Robbie’s MCU debut? Though we don’t get an exact answer, executive Producer Jed Whedon recently spoke with TV Line and teased what they have in store:

“We can’t say much about what we’re going to do with [Robbie Reyes’] origin, but we are doing our own spin on it. We don’t want people who have read the comics to know exactly what’s coming.”

Since MacLachlan is off working on ‘Twin Peaks’, it might be hard to bring him in for an episode of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’. However, that doesn’t mean that Cal’s presence can’t still be felt. After all, it’s possible that someone else could have stumbled up the concoction that turned him into Hyde and used it to enable Robbie’s transformation into Ghost Rider. That could also explain why Daisy is dangerously dangling off the roof of the Hell Charger in the latest videos from set. But that’s all purely speculation at this point. No matter how the writers decide to change things up, hopefully the changes made result in a story that does this legendary character’s introduction justice.

How do you think Robbie Reyes’ origins will change on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’? Do you think that they’ll still somehow involve Cal? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
