‘Legends of Tomorrow’ was pretty crowded with its nine lead characters (ten if you count bad guy Vandal Savage), but believe it or not, this new season looks to balloon even further with the introduction of TWO additional teams!

At the end of the season one finale, ‘Suits’ star Patrick J. Adams made his debut as Rex Tyler/Hourman, announcing he was a member of the Justice Society of America.  Historically, the JSA is the first super team in comics, but it appears that this version will be based more on the modern day revival of the group.

Nick Zano Citizen Steel

We already know that ‘Minority Report’ star Nick Zano will be portraying Citizen Steel, and will be a series regular on the show.  Hourman and Citizen Steel will be joined by Dr. Mid-Nite, Obsidian and Stargirl, all of whom have yet to be cast.  Hourman and Dr. Mid-Nite were both members of the Golden Age JSA, but both have had newer, younger heroes take up their names and heroic roles.  Obsidian is the son of Alan Scott, the first Green Lantern and Stargirl is a double legacy hero, carrying on in honor of the Star-Spangled Kid and Starman.

Interestingly, Hawkman and Hawkgirl were written out of the show, but both are classic JSA members.  And over on ‘Arrow’ the character Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum) is based on modern JSA member/leader Mr. Terrific.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that these characters will be part of this team… but you never know.

And who will all of these heroes be facing?  Why none other than the Legion of Doom!

At SDCC, ‘Legends’ executive producer Marc Guggenheim said:

“For season two of Legends, we decided that the perfect antagonist for TV’s first-ever team of Super Heroes would be TV’s first-ever team of Super-Villains, recruited from the ranks of Arrow and The Flash’s deadliest adversaries. Being huge fans of the Challenge of the Superfriends, we’ve come to call this group our ‘Legion of Doom.’”

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ season two assembles a similar dream team (or is that nightmare team) of enemies from the various CW DC shows.

First is the shifty Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), the duplicitous father of Willa Queen on ‘Arrow’.

He will be joined by ‘Arrow”s season 4 Big Bad, Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough).  (As you can see in the trailer, White Canary has an ax to grind with him after he killed her sister, Laurel!)

Reverse-Flash-Matt-Letscher

From ‘The Flash’ season two, comes Matt Letscher as the Reverse-Flash (original version).

Captain-Cold-Wentworth-Miller

And the most shocking addition, someone the ‘Legends’ are quite familiar with, Captain Cold/Leonard Snart (Wentworth Miller).  Snart went from outright villain in ‘Legends’ season one, to a pretty standup guy who appeared to sacrifice his life to save his buddy Mick Rory/Heatwave and the other time travelers.  But it appears that something happens to turn him back to the side of darkness.

We also know that the heroes will welcome a past version of Vixen (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) but so far there is no sign of her.

Do these new additions make you more excited for ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ after a slightly disappointing freshman season?
