The bumbling Nardole, played by British comedian Matt Lucas, will return to ‘Doctor who’ after making a hilarious debut on ‘The Husbands of River Song‘, last year’s Christmas special.  It wasn’t revealed how many episodes he will be in, but it’s more than one, although he makes his debut in the first episode.  The new season begins filming next week in Cardiff.

Lucas expressed:

“I’m chuffed to bits that Nardole is returning to the TARDIS for some more adventures. I loved acting with Peter and I’m excited to work with Pearl.”

Of course, Lucas got to work with Peter Capaldi on ‘The Husbands of River Song’ but many are curious about Pearl Mackie, who portrays Bill, The Doctor’s latest Companion.

Showrunner Steven Moffat added:

“Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the TARDIS – and this time it’s not just for Christmas, he’s sticking around. One of the greatest comedy talents on planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space.”

Moffat wrote the first episode of the new season which will be directed by Lawrence Gough.

In addition, Frank Cottrell-Boyce will direct the second episode.  Sarah Dollard and Mike Bartlett have been tapped to script additional upcoming episodes.  Stephanie Hyam best known for playing Lily Clarke on ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ will appear in an upcoming episode.  Hyam has also appeared on ‘Sherlock’ and ‘Peaky Blinders’ and in the movie ‘Murdered By My Boyfriend’.

Lucas was last seen in ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ as Tweedledee and Tweedledum.  He is also a regular face on television in Britain and the U.S.

The only new ‘Doctor Who’ episode this year will be the Christmas special which usually airs on Christmas day.  The tenth season begins next year.

Are you happy to see more Nardole on the upcoming episodes?
