It worked wonders for ‘Jurassic World‘.  Now 20th Century Fox is reviving a long dormant blockbuster for a new generation with ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’.  The new film brings back much of the original cast including Jeff Goldblum as David Levinson, Bill Pullman as President Whitmore, Judd Hirsch as Julius Levinson, Vivica A. Fox as Jasmine and Brent Spiner as Dr. Brakish Okun.  (Will Smith was too expensive.)  Joining them will be newcomers Jesse T. Usher as Dylan Hiller, the son of Fox and Smith’s characters, Liam Hemsworth as Jake Morrison, Joey King as Sam, Maika Monroe as Patricia Whitmore and Sela Ward as President Lanford, Pullman’s replacement as leader of the free world.

‘Resurgence’ opens in just a few weeks, so to promote it, Fox has released an action packed clip from the movie, featuring Usher and Hemsworth’s characters taking on the second wave of alien invaders.  You can check out the “Dog Fight” below:

Roland Emmerich returns to direct the sequel and reteamed with Dean Devlin to help pen the script, along with James A. Woods, Nicholas Wright and James Vanderbilt.

We always knew they were coming back. After ‘Independence Day’ redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Can Usher and Hemsworth live up to Will Smith in the original movie?  (Remember, the first ‘Independence Day’ is the movie that made Smith a movie star!)

Directed by Roland Emmerich, ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Sela Ward, Liam Hemsworth, Joey King, Maika Monroe and Jesse T. Usher and will invade theaters on June 24.
