For years we’ve heard from various shows that if so-and-so dies we’ll riot and now the latest trailer for ‘Venom‘ shows a riot! Actually, it shows Riot who is going to be the antagonist in the film as the symbiote who bonds with Riz Ahmed’s Dr. Carlton Drake. Yes, rumors of Carnage showing up in the film are still out there, but they all point to an end-scene or after-the-credits inclusion to set up everyone’s favorite killer symbiote to show up in a sequel if one happens.

As to Riot, we get our brief introduction to the villain as Drake is standing at the front of a room that are likely employees of the Life Foundation and the symbiote forms in front of them with arms that resemble axes and are getting ready to do some damage to everyone that works there.

This leadership style isn’t the best way to retain talent in your organization.

We’ve long heard that the story would revolve around ‘Venom: Lethal Protector’ and this is just another indication that we’re seeing the tale brought to life. In the comics, Riot didn’t bond with Drake but one of the security guards. This change is likely being done to deliver a more menacing villain as someone who not only is now bonded with an alien but is also in charge of the organization.

We also get a brief look at Toxin and Scream here which are recurring characters in the world of ‘Venom’ though it is clear that Riot was the focal point.

I, for one, am still not sold on the need for a cinematic universe based around Spider-Man‘s friends and enemies that don’t involve The Wallcrawler himself.

Are you excited that we’re finally seeing more symbiotes showing up in ‘Venom’? Do you think that Riot will be a villain that you’ll love to hate? Has this trailer helped get you excited for the film? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
