Cable and Deadpool

We all know that Cable was referenced in the end credit scene for ‘Deadpool‘ and at one point there was talk of introducing him in the first film. Now we know why that idea was crossed off and it’s actually a bit of a surprise as to who is behind delaying the fan favorite team up of Cable and Deadpool. What could have caused the delay on bringing these two together on the big screen until the sequel?

Surprisingly enough it was the creator of both superheroes, Rob Liefeld. Yes, the man who decided to take the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor who was originally created by Chris Claremont and made him grow up in a

Yes, the man who decided to take the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor who was originally created by Chris Claremont and made him grow up in a post-apocalyptic future and who was sent back to present day to correct the timeline (much like a mixture of Kyle Reese and John Connor in ‘Terminator’) was originally going to be in the movie instead of Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

Here is the way he explained it:

“Half of us believed the movie should involve Cable. I could feel Cable breathing down my neck. I said, ‘No. Don’t put Cable in the first movie.’ If Cable comes later, great. Deadpool is a vehicle for Ryan to shine. Cable bogs it down, I’m not sure it works as a first film with a general audience. I got in the car and I said, ‘Did I really just kill the appearance of my other more popular character?”

He did! However, thanks to rave reviews, rabid fans, and name dropping Marvel’s most well known time traveling hero, it looks like we are a go with Nathan Summers soon enough. I’m extremely curious as to if we’ll see him coming to stop the rise of Stryfe or if it will somehow tie into ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ and reference En Sabah Nur.

It’d be a great way for Fox to keep Oscar Isaac around for awhile if they referenced both. Either way, I’m sure the reasoning will be part of the lead in to ‘X-Force‘ and I cannot wait!

Do you think it was the right decision to push back introducing us to the X-Men’s favorite anti-hero? What future event do you think will be given for having Cable brought to our time and do you think he will be the son of Cyclops in the cinematic version? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
