Sophie Turner Jean Grey X-Men Apocalypse

With ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ getting ready to drop in theaters and knowing that the next film will begin the kickoff for a new ‘X-Men’ trilogy, we’re hearing rumors that the franchise is set to revisit ‘The Dark Phoenix Saga‘. Thankfully the events of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘ had reset the timeline so we can all happily imagine that ‘X-Men: The Last Stand‘ never happened which means Fox still has a chance to get one of the most iconic X-Men storylines of all time right. While it is just a rumor at this time, it sounds like Sophie Turner‘s Jean Grey is planned to be front and center in the next film, which is either great or terrifying depending how much of a fan of the actress you are.

With being able to properly tell the Phoenix storyline now and it technically not having been done due to the revamped timeline, it would seem like the next logical step in her progression. Even if it is right after they introduce her in the current film.

While running with this storyline is something I could see being done in the future, I’m not sure if now is a good time for it. Between the X-Men Cinematic Universe not having been to space and the new Jean barely having been introduced this seems like a story arc to endcap the upcoming trilogy and not kick it off.

Still, you can hear Heroic Hollywood share their full theory at the 21 minute mark in the following episode:

With ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ already taking one of the largest storylines they’ve done so far, it would seem that they might want to slow things down a little while giving Jean, Scott, and the rest of the X-Men more time to really master their powers before trying to adapt this story arc. Not only that but it would feel much better if they were introducing the space concept portion of it to really do it justice.

Only time will tell.

Are you looking forward to seeing the new ‘X-Men’ take on ‘The Dark Phoenix Saga’ story arc or is this too much for the newly recruited mutants to handle? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
