Hot on the heels of the exclusive cast and press only screening of the premiere episode of ‘Game of Thrones‘ season 6, the show has released a brand new, action-packed trailer for the series, as well as three clips that help set the mood/tone for the opening episodes, and give us an insight into what is happening in the series. Sorry for all the Jon Snow fans, clearly neither the trailer nor the clips give away anything to do with the man’s ultimate fate, but there is still plenty to be excited about!
In the first clip, we see Cersei and Jaime grieving over the loss of their daughter Myrcella in the Red Keep, the young princess having died from poisoning as she left Dorne at the end of last season. With yet another dead child on their hands, it seems pretty clear that Cersei and Jaime are going to be working together a lot more this season to ensure Tommen’s survival, and ensure the survival of the Lannister line in King’s Landing.
In the second clip, we see Sansa and Theon on the run through the snow, with what sounds like Ramsey’s hounds hot on their tails. There is not much dialogue, but it is clearly following their epic leap to escape Winterfell in the season finale, and ends with them trapped between the dogs and an icy river.
The final clip shows Dany, stripped of her regal clothing and entourage, being led back into Vaes Dothrak as a prisoner, surrounded by the people of her deceased husband, who all use the term Khaleesi in sarcastic tones while addressing her.
And lastly, here is the full trailer, which promises a war between the living and the dead in the season, and plenty of action all around. Check it out and then share your thoughts about the clips, and the trailer, in the comments section below!
Full series synopsis below:
Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne continues. It stretches from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues, to the vast and savage eastern lands, where a young queen raises an army. All the while, in the frozen north, an 800-foot wall of ice precariously protects the war-ravaged kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men…all play the ‘Game of Thrones.’ An original series based on George R.R. Martin’s best-selling ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series.
‘Game of Thrones’ returns to HBO on Sunday, April 24.
