The network seems committed to adapting comic books to the small screen as they currently have Robert Kirkman’s ‘Outcast‘ scheduled to be released later this year. Looks like the further we move forward, the more grittier comics are getting adapted and I couldn’t be happier!

This isn’t your average caped superhero book or even one that deals with zombies or Hell on Earth. ‘The Boys’ does have superheroes but these are ones that the government, specifically the CIA, have reigned in and hired to work for them. They are a black-ops unit led by Billy Butcher whose job it is to monitor the superhero community and if any step out of line, it is their job to take them down.

Like I said, not your average caped superheroes.

Much like ‘Preacher’, Ennis has had a lot of obstacles on getting a live-action adaption out there. Both Columbia Pictures and Paramount have tried making a go at getting this on the big screen and failed. There were also rumors that Adam McKay (‘Ant-Man‘) was at one point set to work on it.

Rogen and Goldberg are developing the series with Eric Kripke of ‘Supernatural’ fame. Kripke will be writing the series with Goldberg and Rogen handling initial directing. The pair will be producing through Point Grey along with Neal Moritz of Original Film, and Sony Television. Series creators Ennis and Darick Robertson will also be on board as co-executive producers with Kripke with a few other names attached to the film.

This is a set of graphic novels that I honestly haven’t picked up in years though the second I saw the headline felt that this was a project to get excited about. Superheroes and spies? It is a combination that when done right, makes for great reading! The plot is fantastic and not only are they bringing ‘Outcast’ to series but fans of ‘Strike Back’ should feel right at home slipping into this one.

Are you excited to hear that ‘The Boys’ will be making their way to Cinemax? Who would you like to see cast on the show? Share your thoughts below!
