After Edgar Wright left ‘Ant-Man’, Marvel Studios turned to star Paul Rudd and ‘Anchorman’ filmmaker Adam McKay to do some rewrites to the script. Since that turned out to be better than we all thought it would, it wasn’t that surprising when their names were connected to the sequel ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’. Last month, we heard that Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari would be writing the script with Rudd after the three of them break the story with McKay. But now based on a recent interview, it seems like the director of ‘The Big Short’ isn’t involved in that part of the process at all.

While speaking with Vulture about his latest feature starring Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, and Steve Carell, McKay touched on the projects that he has coming up next. Although when the size-shifting superhero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was brought up, he revealed that he isn’t doing any work on it at the moment. However, that doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t want to contribute down the line:

“I’m talking to them. I just talked to Peyton [Reed, the director of ‘Ant-Man’] the other day. I’ve talked to [Paul] Rudd. I think they have a process they do where they bring a bunch of writers in and toss around ideas, so my hope is that they’ll write a script and I can rewrite it again, because that was a great way to work, and I got to really get my imprint on the movie and have a great time doing it. Kevin Feige knows I love Marvel, so I’m game. I grew up on it. Whatever they need, I’m there.”

If McKay doesn’t end up working on Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne’s next adventure, he’s certainly still on the House of Ideas’ radar. Feige previously said that the filmmaker is “in the running for everything”. With a few Phase Three projects still coming together like ‘Inhumans’ and the unidentified projects scheduled for 2020, Adam McKay could end up anywhere in the MCU.

Do you think Adam McKay should be brought back for ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’? Is there another Marvel project that you think would be a good fit for the filmmaker making waves with his latest film that may end up among the Best Picture nominees at the Academy Awards this year?
