Hello darkness my old friend.

Simon & Garfunkel’s 1966 classic ‘The Sound Of Silence’ has found itself back in the Top Ten thanks to the #sadaffleck meme that’s been swirling around the internet since the release of ‘Batman V Superman’.  The song was #1 for two weeks back in the day and the accompanying video came when Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill were asked to comment on the terrible reception that their superhero clash received from fans and critics.

In the video, Cavill attempts to defend the hot mess  film, while Affleck simply stares off into the distance.  One clever fan set the clip to the morose Simon & Garfunkel song and a meme was born.

Since the video went viral, the song has seen a 582% uptick, which equates to roughly 5.6 million streams on Youtube.

‘Batman V Superman’ has been plagued with negative reception since it came out, but that hasn’t really hurt it at the box office, mainly because it has had no competition.  It’s likely to remain on top this weekend as well, unless Melissa McCarthy’s comedy ‘The Boss’ dethrones it.

The movie opened huge but poor word-of-mouth resulted in it plummeting from Friday to Sunday and its second-weekend numbers were 68% down.  But once again, it hasn’t had any competition as the summer movie season hasn’t actually kicked off yet.  Even so, it appears that studio Warner Brothers is reassessing things somewhat, as they planned an entire franchise around this movie.

‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, and Jesse Eisenberg is in theaters now.

Affleck and Cavill return in ‘Justice League – Part 1′, directed by Zack Snyder which debuts on November 17, 2017.
