With Paul Feig’s upcoming ‘Ghostbusters‘ reboot in the can, it’s time for Sony Pictures to start planning the future of the franchise. It’s been announced that Fletcher Moules has been selected to direct the animated ‘Ghostbusters’ spin-off film. Moules has primarily worked on commercials prior to this gig and is most known for his ‘Clash of Clans’ spots which truly show the full potential of what he can bring to the table.

The ‘Ghostbusters’ universe is no stranger to having an animated series. The cartoon ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ ran from 1986 to 1991 and continued to tell the story of what Venkman, Spengler, Stantz, Zeddmore, and Slimer were up to after the second movie wrapped up.

While this spin-off film will likely have some major talent behind it as Sony Pictures went so far as to create the Ghost Corps studio last year to further the franchise as much as possible, it is unclear as to if this will be directly linked to the live-action films or not. On top of that, we don’t know if we’ll be seeing the characters from Feig’s reboot, the ‘Ghostbusters’ spin-off set to star Channing Tatum, or an entirely new group of characters.

My personal thought is that introducing new characters using voice actors that would also be happy to work in television would be the way to go here. If they keep this tied into the cinematic universe and have an ongoing television show, Sony might be able to pull off what Marvel had tried doing with their own cinematic universe and ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

Are you looking forward to an animated ‘Ghostbusters’ film being in the works? Do you think that they’ll tie it directly into the greater ‘Ghostbusters’ Cinematic Universe that they are building or will this be the start of something different? Share your thoughts below!
