JK Simmons Whiplash

Recently, DC Comics fans have been wondering which heroes would be appearing in Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’. Aquaman, Cyborg, Flash and Green Lantern have been the talk of the town lately since everyone wants to know who exactly will be joining Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in the upcoming blockbuster superhero team up, but now we know that another Gotham City staple will be joining the ranks of the JL when the first part of their story hits theaters next year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons has been cast as Commissioner James Gordon in ‘Justice League – Part One’. Known for a number of memorable roles throughout his career in movies like ‘Whiplash’, ‘Juno’, ‘The Cider House Rules’, and ‘Up In The Air’, Simmons is probably most familiar to superhero fans as Daily Bugle editor-in-chief/infamous Spidey detractor J. Jonah Jameson. After bringing the iconic character from the page to the screen in Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’ in 2002, he reprised the role two more times on the big screen in ‘Spider-Man 2’ and ‘Spider-Man 3’ before lending his voice to the character in a number of animated Marvel shows such as ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’, ‘Avengers Assemble’, and ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’. He even voiced the character on ‘The Simpsons’ once. But now he’ll be jumping over to the DC Cinematic Universe for his latest foray featuring comic book characters come to life. With the announcement of this casting, Simmons joins a the venerable collection of actors to portray Commissioner Gordon that includes the likes of Pat Hingle, Gary Oldman, Bryan Cranston, Bob Hastings, and most recently Ben McKenzie on FOX’s Batman prequel series ‘Gotham’.

Now that we have a Jim Gordon (and a very respectable one at that), we’re likely to hear about more supporting cast members in the coming weeks since shooting is said to begin in mid-April. But until then, what do you think about J.K. Simmons joining Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and the rest of the heroes of ‘Justice League’? Let us know in the comments below.

‘Justice League – Part One’ hits theaters on November 17, 2017, while Part Two comes out on June 14, 2019.
