Agents of SHIELD Grant Ward dead

Ever since his true colors were revealed during the first season of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, True Believers have seen Grant Ward act like a monster. From the countless dubious acts carried out in the name of John Garrett to the extremely personal physical and mental attacks on his former teammates, it was no wonder why Director Phil Coulson did everything that he could to take out Ward. But when we last saw him in the mid-season finale of Season Three, it appears that he has become a literal monster after being possessed by the treacherous alien entity that plagued Jemma Simmons and Will Daniels on the mysterious sand storm-infested planet. So what exactly has the former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. become? One of the show’s stars has spilled the beans.

While appearing at Wizard World Portland over the weekend, Elizabeth Henstridge took the stage to answer questions from the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that were in attendance. When the actress behind Agent Simmons was asked about a co-star that she loves who plays a character that she hates, naturally the conversation moved towards Brett Dalton. However, instead of referring to him as Ward, Henstridge addressed him by his new name:

“Watching him play Hive is interesting. He has the memories of the people he has killed.”

HiveSince Ward’s turn to the dark side, many speculated that he would soon take after a familiar villain from the pages of Marvel Comics, but no one could really tell who that foe would be. But now thanks to Henstridge, we know that he’ll now be the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Hive, a genetically engineered HYDRA creation made of parasites and tentacles. First appearing in Jonathan Hickman’s ‘Secret Warriors’, Hive has gone on to possess a number of hosts. And aside from collecting the memories of its victims, the Hive has been known to latch away from the mass and launch pieces of itself as projectile weapons. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see just how much of that translates over to the MCU version of the character, but either way, Coulson and his crew will certainly have their hands full once the Hive is unleashed upon them.
