In this day and age, it’s nearly impossible for anything to stay hidden in Hollywood. After all, just about anyone has a direct line to TMZ and paparazzi are more determined than ever to dig up dirt on any and every film, TV show, and the people who star in them. Yet Bad Robot and Paramount still managed to keep ’10 Cloverfield Lane’ completely under wraps in order to drop the trailer out of nowhere and surprise unsuspecting fans attending a screening of Michael Bay’s ’13 Hours’. Described as the “blood relative” to Matt Reeves’ 2008 found footage monster movie ‘Cloverfield’, Dan Trachtenberg’s low budget thriller produced by J.J. Abrams and written by ‘Whiplash’ filmmaker Damien Chazelle and Josh Campbell & Matthew Stuecken is shrouded in mystery. And judging by the latest preview for the movie, this will be a mystery that won’t be cracked until it debuts in theaters next month.
In the latest ad for the film short under the alias of ‘Valencia’ released on the Paramount Pictures YouTube page, we’re left with more questions than answers as tension rise among the trapped trio. Based on what we’ve seen so far, we know that the story revolves around a woman who wakes up in a bomb shelter with two men who claim to have saved her from an unknown menace outside that has apparently killed everyone but them. But is that really what’s going on? With the tagline “Monsters Come In Many Forms”, it’s hard to tell whether what we know is really what it seems.
