Evangeline Lilly

Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp was the first female Marvel superhero to have her name in the film’s title, ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp’.  That’s something to be proud of, but some may have felt it was a slight.  After all, there’s much more buzz about Brie Larson starring in her own solo movie, ‘Captain Marvel’ which comes out next February.  However, Lilly isn’t jealous and states that even after kicking butt in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ and becoming something of a breakout star, she doesn’t even want her own solo movie.

At Fan Expo Boston this past weekend, she stated:

“I actually don’t like the idea of a Wasp standalone film, because Ant-Man and Wasp, since the very beginning in the comic books, were always a team. And really, they’re kind of one of the only proper and true teams in the MCU, otherwise it’s mostly a lot of individuals. And I love the team aspect of it, I love watching the interplay between Wasp and Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. For me it’s the most fun part of the film.”

That doesn’t mean she wouldn’t do another Marvel movie without Paul Rudd.  She recently stated that she would leave Scott Lang’s side if it were to be part of an all-female Avengers team.  When asked if she would like to be the leader of this group, she replied “Oh I would love to,” before pausing to consider the work that would go into such an endeavor.  She then quickly reversed her decision. “No, that’s terrifying.”

She then stated:

“Well, it seems only natural Captain Marvel would lead because she is a general? And she’s the captain. And Captain America leads the other Avengers, right, so maybe Captain Marvel would lead. I’d think so.”

Tessa Thompson, a.k.a. Valkyrie, cornered Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and demanded an all-female cinematic super team and the executive seemingly agreed.  There are whispers that Marvel may go forward with this idea and why not?  The female characters have been scene stealers in most of their recent films.

But in the meantime, ‘Captain Marvel’ will soar into theaters on March 8th, 2019.  Then presumably Wasp and Captain Marvel will meet for the first time in ‘Avengers 4’ on May 3rd.
