Heimdall

RUMOR/SPOILER ALERT: This article contains a RUMOR that potentially SPOILS the climax of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ a movie that doesn’t come out for nearly two years.  Proceed with EXTREME caution!

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ doesn’t come out until November 3, 2017, but hey, it’s never too early to ruin the ending, right?

Well, the latest rumor does just that.  As we know, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ explains what the  two most powerful Avengers were up to while their allies were fighting amongst themselves in this year’s ‘Captain America: Civil War‘.  Like in the comics, the über-powerful heroes were taken off the board so as not to make the struggle between the two heroic factions too one-sided and prevent them from ending the battle with one blow.

Instead, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) will embark on what is compared to a comedic “road trip”.  We know that Cate Blanchett has been offered a role, reportedly that of Hela the goddess of Death.  Of Thor’s Asgardian allies, only Jaimie Alexander is confirmed to return as Lady Sif.  There has been no report of the Warriors Three appearing, but because the film largely (entirely?) takes place in Asgard, it’s probably just a matter of time before their inclusion is announced.

Heimdall1But what about Heimdal, the guardian of the Rainbow Bridge which acts as a nexus between the various realms?  As far as star power, Idris Elba, who plays that role, is one of the bigger names in the Marvel Studios pantheon but his role has been limited in the ‘Thor’ films thus far.  But the latest rumor is that he will have a larger role in ‘Ragnarok’ although perhaps not for the better.

The rumor states that in the battle between Hela and Thor and his heroic allies, she destroys Mjolnir and KILLS Heimdall!

But that isn’t the last we’ll see of Elba in the movie.  In the final conflict, Hela’s army of the dead attack and are opposed to Valkyrie and her warriors, backed up by an army of dead heroic warriors.  (Does this include Quicksilver and other deceased heroes from the other movies– like whoever dies in ‘Civil War’?  Because that would be awesome!)

Now this is just a rumor, and the movie is still close to two years away.  First, the rumor could be false, so take that with a grain of salt.  And second, the film  may be so far off that if this rumor is true and such a crucial plot development has been leaked, the script can actually be changed before filming begins.

What do you think? Would this a proper ending for Heimdal?

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jaimie Alexander, Tom Hiddleston and possibly Cate Blanchett is due to hit theaters on November 3, 2017.
