The third and supposedly final Thor film ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ will feature at least two Avengers with the Hulk joining the fight. Hulk actor, Mark Ruffalo is fielding questions about the film (like it or not) while doing promo for his new film ‘Spotlight’ about the very different topic of exposing child molestation in the Catholic Church. In the midst of that heavy material and the Asgardian apocalypse known as ‘Ragnarok’ Ruffalo remains upbeat. He goes so far to call his next Marvel appearance a “buddy picture.”

Ruffalo tells New York Daily News about what little he actually knows:

“I don’t really know that much about it, but I think it’s going to be a buddy picture with Thor and Bruce Banner.”

I doubt “buddy picture” will be part of the ‘Ragnarok’ TiVo description when it eventually hits cable considering that the title implies not just the end of the Thor films but of Odin, Loki, and the rest of Asgard. Ragnarok is the term used for the end times for the mythological Norse Gods that these characters are based on. In the comics, these characters are the same as the gods of the Vikings and invoking Ragnarok is used sparingly, usually in stories that follow alternate timelines or are retconned to avoid actually killing off Thor and company. Asgard will need help with this one, Hulk.

Ruffalo goes on to say that the “buddy” bit probably won’t be the end of the story. It sounds like they may be frienemies instead.

“I think they’ll probably fight. There’s no doubt, everyone wants us to fight at one point.”

Yeah, they kinda need to fight. Audiences love hero-on-hero brawls like Hulk vs. Iron Man’s Hulkbuster in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’ Thor and Hulk mixing it up in the first ‘Avengers’ was also a fan highlight, especially the comic Hulk side punch sending Thor off screen. Maybe it’s time for payback.
