In ‘Captain America: The First Avenger‘ we were introduced to Cap’s great love in Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter but now we’re learning that Steve Rogers wasn’t her first love. We already knew from ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘ that she ends up falling in love again and has a daughter but in the most recent episode of ‘Agent Carter‘ we’ve been shown quite a bit more about the mindset that Peggy Carter was in when she first met Steve as well as how she developed into the woman who would help found S.H.I.E.L.D.

Obviously if you haven’t seen the latest episode there is a bit of a spoiler below so it would be a great time to turn back now.

In the most recent episode we were able to see flashbacks of both Peggy and her nemesis Whitney Frost as the two grew into the woman that they are today. Clearly they had vastly different upbringings and it has helped shaped them into strong and independant women with Carter on the side of good and Frost always making a point to just look out for herself. What is interesting though was that we saw not only that Peggy was always a tomboy but that prior to the war effort she was engaged to be married and stay safe in England. It was news of her brother’s death that had her enlist for being a spy behind enemy lines and the rest, as they say ,was history.

According to Atwell:

“I thought maybe Peggy’s always had it in her, maybe she’s always been this tomboy and she takes that road and gives up on love, but she actually comes across a great dilemma — to receive the love of a really good man and have the security of a good life, or she goes on this completely off-the-wall, very abstract road that offers her extreme adventure. We know whatever path she takes will shape her destiny.”

With Steve not being the only love interest in her life they’ve been piling it on for who her mystery husband will be. So far this season she’s been strongly attracted to the scientist Jason Wilkes, having an overly friendly connection with Jarvis who clearly loves spending time with her, and still is working with Daniel Sousa who could always turn away from his soon to be engagement if he and Peggy ended up falling in love with one another. Of course, these could all just be diversions before they introduce the man she does end up falling for.

Are you glad that we’re seeing more of Peggy’s motivations as a person being revealed this season? Do you think one of the men in her life that we’ve been introduced to so far will be the one she ends up with? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
