Now that ‘The Force Awakens‘ is behind us, we can look forward to the next entry in the ‘Star Wars’ saga, Gareth Edwards’ ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.’ Fortunately for all, the site ‘Making Star Wars’ has been on top of their game when it comes to tracking the newest film coming down the pipeline, and though little information has come out so far, they still have some juicy pieces of information. For example, they have learned a number of production codenames used to describe characters in the film, which might shed some light on the characters themselves.
Felicity Jones’ character (rumored to be named Lyra Erso) is codenamed Green Seal Leader, while Jian Wen is called Seal Communicator Blue, and Alad Tudyk (playing a robot) is called Seal Droid. The elusive Forest Whitaker’s character is known as Eel Commander, and it seems most of the villains code-names are all shark-related, which works against the Seals and Eels. What can we postulate from this? That Jones’s character is clearly leading the rebels involved in the mission to steal the plans to the first Death Star, and the “Eels” are most likely the bounty hunters hired to work with the rebels.
When talking about Forest Whitaker’s character, Making Star Wars also had the following to report:
“It appears he has one leg and uses a cane as a crutch to walk. Earlier reports made it seem like he might have one leg but the clarification on the topic is a “robot leg.” He appears to be a veteran of some battles, but it isn’t clear if he lost his leg fighting in The Clone Wars or against the Empire. Based on a differentiated code name from the rest of the rebels in the movie, it appears he is likely good but maybe a bounty hunter affiliated type. He has a cape and his costume is a hodgepodge of different things (think of someone you might see at Maz’s Castle)”.
Understandably not a huge amount of information at this point, but every little bit helps us see the bigger picture of the movie, even if some of this does need to be taken with a grain of salt. What are your thoughts on the various factions, or the idea of Whitaker playing a grizzled old bounty hunter leading his younger charges? Share your opinions and theories below!
