DarkseidFinalCrisis

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information and IMAGES that may be considered SPOILERS for ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Justice League – Part One’.  Proceed with caution!

A few months ago, Warner Brothers released a clip from ‘Batman V Superman’ depicting a dark (evil?) version of Superman, surrounded by followers who bowed before him, confronting a captive Batman and unmasking him.  The unmasking is what had most fans buzzing, although the entire clip has since been revealed to be part of a dream sequence.

What many missed however, was a brief shot that preceded the capture of Batman.

You can see a still image from the clip below:

Here we see Batman in full desert gear, fighting some rather Nazi-like soldiers.  Strewn on the ground around them are what appear to be fallen soldiers although it isn’t clear if they are more enemies of perhaps allies.  But one thing that most people missed… WHAT THE HELL ARE THOSE FLYING INSECT-LOOKING THINGS?! Upon my first viewing, I was puzzled but thought “Maybe they’re some sort of Bat-Drones.”  Because, “Wait… there’s no way those could be… They wouldn’t reveal THAT so soon… would they?!”

They couldn’t be…

Parademons?!

But a new image has been released that seems to indicate that YES those shadowy winged terrors are in fact Parademons.

We see what appears to be Batman from the dream sequence standing outside a city in charred ruins, with a huge inferno off to the right.  But it’s what’s directly in front of him that is the most telling clue: an Omega symbol.

In the Greek alphabet, Omega is the last letter and the term “Omega” is often used to signify “the end” of something.  It’s also the symbol most associated with despot Darkseid, the New God ruler of Apokolips, a devastated planet covered with his fire pits, which strongly resemble the blaze to Batman’s right.  Often when victims submit to Darkseid’s mind control, an Omega symbol appears on their foreheads.  And furthermore, the powerful, reality-warping beams that Darkseid fires from his eyes are called the Omega Effect.

Though always a major baddie in the DC Comics Universe, when DC rebooted its universe five years ago, they placed Darkseid front and center, making him the force of evil that caused the formation of the Justice League.  It’s really no shock that Darkseid will also be the catalyst for the formation of the movie ‘Justice League’ but the fact that his entrance is already being set up so early, in a film that already seems to be chocked full of characters and storylines.

What do you think about Darkseid making an appearance or at least a hint of an appearance in ‘Batman V Superman’?  Are you excited to see this ultimate villain on the big screen?

‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Michael Shannon and Jesse Eisenberg hits theaters on March 25, 2016.

‘Justice League – Part One’ also directed by Zack Snyder, starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, Christina Wren, and reportedly Amber Heard and Dan Amboyer, opens on November 17, 2017.
