Captain-Cold-Wentworth-Miller

The term “ragtag” was seemingly coined to describe the disparate mashup of personalities on The CW’s ‘Legends of Tomorrow’.  Kooky time traveler Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) assembles a team to battle immortal conqueror Vandal Savage (Casper Crump), consisting of: a mature physics teacher, Martin Stein (Victor Garber); an altruistic scientist, Ray Palmer/The Atom (Brandon Routh); a back-from-the-dead assassin, Sara Lance/White Canary (Caity Lotz); a pair of star-crossed, reincarnated lovers/warriors, one of whom remembers their past lives and loves, Carter Hall/Hawkman (Falk Hentschel), one of whom doesn’t, Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée); an a high school student, Jay Jackson (Franz Drameh).  But perhaps the most awkward additions to this lineup are convicted super villains, Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Mick Rory/Heatwave (Dominic Purcell).

Most of these colorful characters first came to life on ‘Arrow’ and ‘The Flash’ and Miller’s Snart/Captain Cold is one of the most visible.  Starting out as one of The Flash’s arch-enemies, Central City’s fleet-footed hero soon realized that despite his greedy ambition, Snart lived by a pretty strict code of ethics and refused to cross too far over the line into darkness.  The pair have formed an uneasy alliance numerous times now, but Snart remains an outlaw at heart.  Or does he?

Miller attended the Television Critics Association winter press tour, where he gave a tease as to what fans could expect of Snart’s involvement with the ‘Legends’ and how they should expect his character to evolve:

“What I’m enjoying is exploring why he’s a part of this mission to begin with.  It starts out being all about stealing stuff, like ’Let’s go back in time—I’ve got my shopping list and there’s some really cool stuff I can make off with!’ I think the mission quickly becomes personal in a way that Snart did not expect.”

But no matter how personal matters get for Snart, don’t expect him to become a total do-gooder:

“I never want to see him wearing the pristine white hat.”

Well, no because that would look ridiculous with the hood of his parka!

Unfortunately, word at the moment is that ‘Legends’ has proven to be more expensive than The CW anticipated and while the network is likely to have another midseason DC spinoff show in 2017, it most likely won’t be ‘Legends of The Day After Tomorrow’.  And while Miller will probably return as Captain Cold, both Miller and Purcell are returning to the show that made them famous, FOX’s ‘Prison Break’ which was just announced as making a comeback next season.  So don’t expect the hot and cold team to visit Central City quite as regularly as they have been.  (Then again, it was their past on ‘Prison Break’, on which they played brothers, that made their pairing on ‘The Flash’ so meta and fun.)

How would you like to see Captain Cold develop on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’?  Is he better as an outright criminal, or do you like the edgy antihero Snart?

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ kicks off tonight, January 21, on the CW at 8pm!
