We recently had found out that Kurt Russell (‘The Thing’,’Stargate’) has been offered a role in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ but just learned that he hasn’t even seen the first film! With it having only been two days since he heard an offer at the time of being interviewed, it makes sense that he hadn’t had a chance to put aside a couple of hours in his schedule to see if he even wants to play Star Lord’s father or not. I’m sure something about promoting ‘The Hateful Eight‘ has been keeping him busy too:

“I literally got a phone call two days ago about this. I’ve never seen Guardians of the Galaxy. I don’t know anything about it. I’m one of the four idiots that’s never seen it. Many times I’ve heard ‘That’s a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.’ I don’t know it.”

We all know that acting wise he can pull off the kind of personality that would be perfect for working across from Chris Pratt and Russell has done genre work before, but working with Marvel can be a different kind of game altogether. Working with Marvel can be a different kind of game altogether. While Russell is aware of this, he wants to at least get an idea of the original and what the script is for the second film before agreeing to anything:

“I didn’t realize that the man [James Gunn] had written and directed it. So we talked to each other on the phone and I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read it, and I have to watch the movie because I can’t bring anything for you. I’ve got nothing to offer here.’ So, I’m amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do.”

I’m hoping that he likes what he sees as he could be an excellent choice for working with Marvel. Of course, there are a multitude of reasons he could turn it down even if he is interested. First off there could always be a scheduling conflict if he has any unannounced upcoming films lined up. That and if does play a character like Adam Warlock or something similar, a multi-movie commitment would probably be required which some actors try to avoid.

Would you be happy to see Kurt Russell going at it with Chris Pratt on the big screen? Are you glad that he doesn’t want to commit until he’s had a chance to actually see the first one? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
