Hot on the heels of its 4th week dominating the box office, it seems the folks behind ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 2‘ are now considering the future of the franchise, namely in whether they should start thinking prequels. The flames of the rumor were further stoked by Lionsgate VP Michael Burns announcing that the series might get another go-around, but what exactly that means is anyone’s guess. And while many fans are excited to see that the franchise may not end with ‘Mockingjay: Part 2,’ not everyone is on board with keeping the series going just for the sake of the money it can continue to make.

According to ‘Variety,’ Jennifer Lawrence was not too thrilled with the news, jokingly stating:

“It’s too soon…They need to let the body get cold.”

To which I agree.

Look, even if they made the prequels, it’s doubtful Lawrence would be involved as the prequels would most likely take place long before the birth of Katniss, Peeta or Gale, going back to the first Hunger Games or even the original war that founded Panem. So it is not like she is being asked to come back per say. But she has a point that jumping immediately into prequels solely to make as much money as possible while the franchise is still hot does not bode well for anyone. Rushing a franchise out before a good story is found has ruined many other movies before (I’m looking at you ‘Fantastic Four‘ 2015), and a book series continuing beyond what was originally written has yet to end well on screen (now I’m looking at you ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy).  At the end of the day, while a prequel might be an interesting idea if they can get Suzanne Collins on-board to write the story, it should not be rushed into, not if they want to maintain any of the quality of the original films (although some might argue that quality already went down with ‘Mockingjay: Part 2,’ but I digress)
