RUMOR ALERT: Take this information with a grain of salt, as it is just a RUMOR at this point.

No, Warner Brothers still hasn’t officially announced a solo ‘Batman’ movie starring Ben Affleck, but one is pretty much a foregone conclusion and rumors keep surfacing regarding one.  The latest is that Affleck, who pops up in next year’s ‘Suicide Squad’, will find himself teamed up with one of their members in his solo movie.

The ‘Suicide Squad’ movie definitely features several of Batman’s most famous villains, most notably The Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), as well as Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Deadshot (Will Smith) and a character that is normally an ally in the comics, Katana (Karen Fukuhara).  It seems that one name on this list may play a large role in ‘Batman’ (or whatever it winds up being called) and not as an antagonist.

The rumor is that Will Smith has signed on for multiple films with Warner Brothers and is hoping to be very involved with the unfolding DC Cinematic Universe.  Plans for Deadshot in ‘Batman’ are being compared to ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’, meaning that circumstances will force these two normal opponents to work together.

Should this prove to be true, it feeds into what appears to be becoming a pattern, which is peppering certain characters throughout various movies, creating a cohesive shared universe.  Wonder Woman has a significant role in ‘Batman V Superman’.  And on the flip side, the ‘Wonder Woman’ movie is rumored to include a Batman cameo.  And we already know Batman is in ‘Suicide Squad’.  And we’ve heard that Mera will pop up in ‘Justice League’ before playing a major role in ‘Aquaman’.  And there are also rumors that Black Canary will appear in ‘Justice League’ before flying solo(ish) in a ‘Birds of Prey’ movie, while another JL member Cyborg may see his proposed solo movie retooled as a ‘Teen Titans’ film.

Deadshot isn’t really a major character in the comics, but Will Smith IS a major actor.  Since the movies aren’t slavishly translating the comic book mythology, there’s nothing saying that a seemingly minor character couldn’t be built up in a manner different than the source.

What do you think?  Is Deadshot a prime candidate for a larger role in the DCCU?  Do you think Affleck and Smith would make a good onscreen duo?

‘Suicide Squad’ will be released on August 5th, 2016 and stars: Cara Delevingne, Jai Courtney, Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, and Will Smith.
