Things aren’t looking good for ‘Pacific Rim 2‘ as the film has been dropped from Universal’s upcoming release calendar. The studios are stressing that this delay is so that we can get a movie worthy of the money they are investing in it and not due to complications with production. While the movie was set to be released on August 4th, 2017, it can no longer be found on the calendar. We previously heard that the movie had already been “halted indefinetely” and now instead of watching giant robots fight monster that weekend Universal now has ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ scheduled to be released.

I’m sure everyone here is just thrilled to hear that.

Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures have released a joint statement which say that the delay is purely to keep the quality of the film up which I’m sure is meant to hint that it has nothing to do with the strained relationship that these 2 studios are currently suffering from.

The filmmakers, Legendary and Universal Pictures are committed to having [PACIFIC RIM 2] be the vanguard, fully-immersive experience that the franchise deserves. To this end, the decision was made to delay the production and release of PACIFIC RIM 2 so that the creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film.

We’re all hoping that this movie still happens both because ‘Pacific Rim‘ was amazing and also because we don’t need another Guillermo del Toro film being scrapped. At this time though del Toro is keeping himself busy as he will be working on a small indie film next. As that doesn’t sound like ‘Hellboy 3‘ it will probably be the mystery project he teased last year about being a black and white film that is “really, really bizarre.”
