With ‘Captain America: Civil War‘ still about 8-9 months away, people are buzzing for any information about the highly anticipated movie, including finding out where the creators of the comics weigh in on the debate. Recently at the Edmonton Comic Expo, a fan asked Stan Lee himself whether he favors more the Iron-Man side, or the Captain America side, to which Lee replied:

“Whatever side Captain America was on [should win], because he’s the best, pure-hearted person in the whole world.”

No debate there clearly, even though Lee has definitely ties to both Iron-Man and Captain America, having written both for a number of years. Of course, Cap was a character he wrote for when he was up and coming, loving the character so much as to bring him back from the dead in the 1964, so clearly there has always been a bit of a bias toward the Star Spangled Avenger. Still, he does bring up a good point about Captain America. When the hero was injected by the super-solider serum he was told it enhances not only physical characters, but also mental ones. If a person is good, he will be great. If he is evil (i.e. The Red Skull), he will become even more evil. So in the case of Steve Rogers, who was already fairly noble before he was injected, he only became more noble, which means while he may not necessarily always be right, his actions are always motivated from a good place, from the man trying to do the right thing. Which is also why I will be rooting for Cap in the upcoming film.

While on the subject, Lee also commented on Chris Evans the actor, jokingly talking up the young man:

“By the way, he’s a great actor, too, the guy who plays Captain America does a beautiful job – Chris Evans. I say that because he likes me, and anyone who likes me is a great actor.”
