When Sony and Marvel reached their historic deal earlier this year allowing Spider-Man to enter the MCU, at the time the only downside to the deal was that it meant Andrew Garfield’s time as the web-slinger was over, and it meant that Drew Goddard’s ‘Sinister Six’ film would not be happening. Based on reports we later heard about what the movie would have been like, many of us counted our blessings that Goddard’s film would not be made anymore. Now it seems Goddard is still holding onto hope that one day the MCU might consider allowing him to create his film, as according to him, it could work with any version of Spider-Man, as it would take him out of the normal scope of continuity. Maybe it would be best if I let the man explain it himself:

“My vision of that movie was a summer annual. So you didn’t have to worry about continuity. It was just, ‘We take Peter, put him on an adventure, we put him back in his life.’ I intentionally wanted a movie that didn’t have to worry about mythology and continuity. It was important to me to make a movie that could stand on its own. So the good news is it slots in very well to any plan anybody ever wants. We just need to let a couple years go by, I think.”

When asked whether the movie was even going to include Spider-Man in a starring role (at one time Andrew Garfield had stated Spidey’s role in the film would be small), Goddard set the record straight, saying it would definitely still revolve around the web-head:

“It was a Spider-Man movie. It was the giant, epic Spider-Man movie of my dreams.”

I personally hope that Marvel thinks long and hard before giving Goddard this particular project, for while I respect the man’s contributions to ‘Daredevil,’ I am not sure his vision of Spider-Man or ‘The Sinister Six’ fits in with the MCU. Based on what we heard before (here’s the link again in case you missed it), it sounds more like crazy fan-fiction, and I’m not sure the continuity obsessed MCU would want a movie that tramples over so many characters, locations, and ideas.
