Possibly the biggest gripe about the first trailer for ‘Jem and the Holograms’ is the absense of rival bad girl band The Misfits. That, plus the initial omission of Synergy, Jem’s hologram-projecting super computer, implied that the new film would be devoid of many of the most popular elements of the original cartoon– what made it so special. With the release of a second trailer, one of those things, Synergy appears to actually be in the new film adaptation. And, though there has been no announcement to the effect, the ‘Jem’ movie may in fact not be completely mischief-free.

Take this with a grain of salt, but according to her Wikipedia page, pop singer Kesha (the artist formerly known as Ke$ha) is in ‘Jem & The Holograms’ and in a pretty crucial role, Phyllis Gabor, better known as Pizzazz, the green-haired leader of The Misfits!

Wikipedia is open to the public to add or modify information, so there’s no really reliable source for this, but there are photographs of Kesha decked out with green hair and purple lipstick, which certainly look quite Pizzazz-like. And with her rowdy, booze-chugging persona, she could be the perfect choice!

On the show, Pizzazz was a spoiled rich girl whose mother left her at an early age and whose father was too busy with business to pay attention to her. Pizzazz became a trouble-making rock star in order to gain attention, which she so desperately craved. That’s why she so passionately hated Jem and the Holograms, because she saw them as stealing her spotlight.

She at times romantically pursued Rio and was furious that he spurned her advances, before she fell head-over-heels for Riot, the charismatic and aloof singer for The Stingers in Season Three.

To be honest, out of nearly every female pop star out there, Kesha’s discography consists of songs that could easily have been sung by the cartoon group, heavy on partying, flirting and getting what she wants. She is also something of an outsider beside more demure stars like Katy Perry, with her hard partying image… a fact that she doesn’t seem to give an F about.

Since the movie is so close to release, don’t expect Pizzazz and the Misfits to play a huge role, which is unfortunate.  It’s possible that she won’t even appear until the end (post-credit scene?) to tease a sequel.
