For years and years (and years at this point), Bill Murray has been teasing his involvement in a third ‘Ghostbusters’ movie. There was a small period of time where we thought that he’d be in ‘Ghostbusters 3’, but then that project fell to the wayside in favor of a reboot of the franchise from Paul Feig featuring some of the funniest actresses in the game today. Though Dan Aykroyd (who never really gave up hope for another ‘Ghostbusters’ movie) revealed his involvement in the upcoming film, hope was basically lost for fans wishing that Murray would return as well. However, the latest reports indicate that the veteran actor has flip flopped yet again and has actually already shot a cameo for the new movie starring Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, and Leslie Jones.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the long-resistant Murray will indeed be making a cameo appearance in the new ‘Ghostbusters’ film. On multiple occasions, the star has said that he was hesitant to do more in the series due to the reception of ‘Ghostbusters II’. Then last week, he was reportedly spotted heading to the Boston set, but many assumed that he was just being his lovable, random self. However, the word is that he’ll actually be returning to the beloved franchise in a small role.

Does this mean that we’ll be seeing Dr. Peter Venkman once again? Well, not necessarily. Birth Movies Death reports that Murray will actually be playing Martin Heiss, a “professional supernatural debunker” that looks to expose the new Ghostbusters as frauds. This role was apparently written for Murray and it somewhat mirrors where we saw Dr. Venkman at the beginning of ‘Ghostbusters II’, so even though he’s not returning to his iconic character, the part should be interesting nonetheless. After all, it is Bill freakin’ Murray!

Are you excited to hear that Bill Murray will appear in ‘Ghostbusters’ after all? What do you think of his supposed character, Martin Heiss? Does it disappoint you at all that he won’t be reprising the role of Dr. Peter Venkman? Or are you just happy that he’s involved in the movie at all? Sound off in the comments.

‘Ghostbusters’ starring s Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Andy Garcia, Cecily Strong, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, Chris Hemsworth, and Neil Casey hits theaters on July 15, 2016.
