WARNING – SPOILERS AHEAD

With all the photos and videos released from the set of Paul Feig’s new ‘Ghostbusters‘ film, it was only a matter of time until we learned where Dan Aykroyd’s cameo was going to fit into the movie. Rumors had spread earlier that he was interested in a brief bit part, which of course was markedly different from the stance of his original co-stars Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, the former of which has expressed reluctance to return to the character of Peter Venkman and the latter of which had already made his thoughts known about Feig rebooting the franchise.

Now, thanks to IndieRevolver and their source ‘The Twirp’ (on the set of the film), we now know Aykroyd will be playing a cabbie in the film, and that he recently shot his scene with Kristen Wiig in Boston. Apparently the scene involves Wiig trying to get into Aykroyd’s cab with no luck, with Aykroyd eventually throwing out the line – “I ain’t afraid of no ghosts!” He leaves her behind and drives off, leaving Wiig yelling after him something similar to “That’s a double negative! That means you ARE afraid of ghosts!” The cameo (confirmed by Dan Aykroyd in the Tweet to the left, which was subsequently pulled down) will be yet another callback to the original films, which seems likely to happen very often in the reboot despite Feig’s insistence that the new film is in a separate universe from the originals (which was due to his desire to have the average public in the film be unaware of the existence of ghosts).

I do not particularly mind the references to the original, especially when they involve one of the original ‘Ghostbusters,’ and this particular scene actually makes me more excited for the film, as it sounds like it could be quite funny (especially her point about the inaccuracy of the original catchphrase). What are your thoughts so far on the reboot? Do you like what you’re seeing/ hearing? Let us know in the comments below!
