It seems right before the extremely well-received ‘Deadpool’ panel at San Diego Comic Con this past week, Cinemablend managed to score an interview with Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, TJ Miller and Brianna Hildebrand. They discussed the upcoming film in some detail, naming one of the chief  virtues of the film as being R-Rated, which allowed them to include lots of violence, profanity, and yes, even sex. Though the brief trailer we saw only had about 2 seconds of actual sex, the cast claimed that the finished film would feature a very cool sex montage between Reynolds and Baccarin, which Reynolds stated was “Very athletic.” (a quip seconded by Baccarin herself).

While speaking of her character and relationship to Wade Wilson in the film, Morena Baccarin had the following to say:

“It’s an origin story for these characters, so you see them falling in love. You see them meeting each other for the first time and discovering that they’re kindred spirits. There’s this awesome sex montage, you see them love each other more and more.”

For those unaware, in the comics, Baccarin’s character, Vanessa, is a prostitute (which will run true in the film) who Wade Wilson manages to fall in love with. Their happy ending is cut short however when they learn Wilson has developed cancer in his liver, heart, prostate and brain. It is this illness that causes Wilson to leave Vanessa. As Baccarin states:

“He sort of detaches from her because he wants to go through this cancer thing, and doesn’t want her to be witness to it. And it remains to be seen whether they’ll find each other again.”

So despite the violence and gore and hilarity, the film definitely has a love story at its heart, which may help ground everything for audiences. What are your thoughts so far on ‘Deadpool,’ are you excited to see where its all going or do you think they might have made some mistakes along the way?
