Hasbro and the Transformers are combining with online gaming and video platform Machinima for ‘Combiner Wars’ based on the toys, IDW comics and upcoming video game ‘Transformers: Devastation.’

The ‘Combiner Wars’ storyline has been playing out in the comics for the past year and this marks the first time that the comics, video game and animated series, as well as the toys, will work together to tell one story.  Considering all the moving parts, the result is appropriately sophisticated.  In other words, this ain’t ‘Rescue Bots.’

Tom Warner, the Hasbro senior VP of the ‘Transformers’ brand, declared, “[Machinima is] the perfect partner to help launch a totally new kind of Transformers animation — one that, for the first time ever, is specifically designed for the teen and adult fans who’ve grown up loving the Transformers brand.”

Machinima, for its part, concurs.  “Our audiences are huge fans of the toy, comics, movies and video games, and for us to continue the legend with the ‘Combiner Wars’ is a unique story-telling opportunity,” states Machinima’s chief content officer Daniel Tibbets.

Combiners have long been part of the ‘Transformers’ brand.  The Constructicons were the first example of five individual robots that turned into vehicles but could hen combine into one larger ‘bot, in this case Devastator.

The most recent storyline features such characters as Superion and Menasor.

No release date was given for the new animated series or any specific details.  But it’s coming!

What do you think?  Are you ready for a grown-up ‘Transformers’ series?
