E3 is upon is! Which means this week is sure to be rife with big game news, demos of new releases, and of course, epic trailers showing off what is coming out next for big franchises. This article is about the news and cinematic trailer for ‘Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate,’ which will be the first game of the series set in a more “modern” era, taking place in 1868 in London, during the Industrial Revolution. The game will focus on twins Jacob and Evie Frye, who fight against rival mobs and corruption in London. According to Marc-Alexis Ceto, the Creative Director of Ubisoft Quebec:

“This pivotal moment in human history has allowed us to create the first modern Assassin’s Creed game…Together with their street gang, our two assassins, Jacob and Evie Frye, will fight to take London out of the hands of the greedy and the corrupt in order to give the city back to its people.”

Furthermore, due to its setting the combat of the game will be markedly different than other games in the series, due to the fact that it takes place in a city with police and a civilian population, who would find it strange to see people walking down the streets armed as characters were in former games. Cote had the following to say on the subject:

“In the Victorian era, if people were to see you walking with a sword you probably would have been arrested or looked really, really out of place…So when you fight with your hands it’s all about breaking bones and disabling your targets. When you fight with kukris it’s easier to dispatch them, but it’s a lethal option–sometimes you have to keep your targets alive, so that’s why you’ll use your fists. We have the cane, as well, which we’ll reveal more about in the future.”
