Earlier this month, Warner Bros. officially announced that rising star Eddie Redmayne would star as Newt Scamander in the upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ prequel/spinoff ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.’ But around the same time, we learned of some other potential characters that could be appearing in the film directed by David Yates and written by J.K. Rowling thanks to a casting report listing two female characters that the author/adventurer meets in 1920s New York City while he studies magical creatures around the wizarding world. Now, the studio has just revealed who will be playing one of these pivotal ladies alongside their Academy Award-winning star.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Katherine Waterston will star opposite Redmayne in ‘Fantastic Beasts’. The British actress is known for her roles in films such as ‘Robot & Frank,’ ‘Michael Clayton,, and ‘Taking Woodstock,, but she came to prominence after starring as Emma Harrow in the hit HBO series ‘Boardwalk Empire’ and Paul Thomas Anderson’s groovy oddball romp starring Joaquin Phoenix ‘Inherent Vice.’ In her latest project, the rising star will play Tina (which is short for Porpentina, who is believed to be Newt’s future wife). Greg Silverman, Warner Bros.’ president of creative development and worldwide production, had the following to say about the casting:

“Katherine Waterston is a rising star, who was a revelation in our film ‘Inherent Vice’, earning the praise of both critics and audiences. We are thrilled to have her back in the Warner Bros. family, especially in one of our most anticipated titles for 2016, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.’”

Previously, it was said that Waterston was in consideration for the role of Tina’s sister Queenie along with Kate Upton and Elizabeth Debicki, whereas Saoirse Ronan, Dakota Fanning, Lili Simmons, and Alison Sudol were the ones being considered for Tina. It’ll be interesting to see who ends up as Queenie now and whether or not Waterston would have fit into that character had casting gone a bit differently.
