We’ve known for awhile now that Syfy is planning to bring ‘Childhood’s End‘ to the small screen and we have the first trailer for this epic mini-series! With six hours in length, some might wonder how ‘Childhood’s End’ will be done justice, but when you factor in six hours over only two if it had gone the big screen route, there is a lot that they’ll be able to cover here. Akiva Goldsman and Mike De Luca are on board as Executive Producers with Matthew Graham adapting the novel to series.

In ‘Childhood’s End,’ we see what happens when aliens benevolently take over the Earth only to find that the cost for humanity isn’t our freedom but who and what we actually are.

You can check out the trailer below followed by the show’s synopsis:

Written by Arthur C. Clarke and hailed as a revolutionary work of science fiction since its publishing in 1953, Childhood’s End follows the peaceful alien invasion of Earth by the mysterious “Overlords,” whose arrival begins decades of apparent utopia under indirect alien rule, at the cost of human identity and culture.

Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) will play Karellen, the ambassador for the Overlords. Mike Vogel (Under the Dome) will play Ricky Stormgren, a midwestern farmer whose life is turned upside down when he is named the sole human ambassador for the Overlords. Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck) will play Rupert Boyce, an enigmatic American entrepeneur.

Wow, does that look compelling! Syfy really has bumped up the production budgets and is clearly looking to produce some real science fiction once again. Not only that, but this looks to have the potential to be one of the best adaptations of Clarke’s work to date! Not that the bulk of his known work has really gotten a proper treatment. With ‘2001: A Space Odyssey‘ as the benchmark, that is a high barrier to pass so only time will tell.
