It has only been a couple weeks since Syfy announced they have given ‘The Magicians’ a series order and now we have the first trailer!

Based on the book trilogy by Lev Grossman, ‘The Magicians’ follows Quentin Coldwater (played by Jason Ralph), a brilliant 20 something grad student who is accepted into the Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, a secret school for those who exhibit real magical abilities. He soon discovers that the magical Narnia-like world he loved to read as a child is all too real  – and poses a grave danger to the whole of humanity. Also starring in the series are Stella Maeve, Arjun Gupta, Hale Appleman, Summer Bishil, and Sosie Bacon.

Check out the trailer below!

Those who have read the trilogy will immediately notice quite a few changes after seeing the trailer such as the age of Quentin and the fact that he is entering grad school and not college like in the books. Also, for some unknown reason they changed Janet’s name to Margo.

Fans have been waiting for some time now for ‘The Magicians’ to finally reach the small screen. Back in 2011, Fox was in the process of developing the series and had tapped ‘X-Men: First Class’ and ‘Thor’ writers Ashley Miller and Zac Stentz to scibe the pilot script. Ultimately Fox passed on the project which then was picked up by Syfy who hired Mike Cahill (‘Another Earth,’ ‘I Origins’) to direct the teleplay which was re-written by John McNamara (‘Jericho,’ ‘The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.’) and Sera Gamble (‘Supernatural’).

The trailer looks pretty intriguing and the series seems to belong more on the CW network rather than Syfy. While it does give a grown up ‘Harry Potter’ tone, that shouldn’t deter from checking the series out.

Syfy has order 12 episosdes of ‘The Magicians’ which should premiere sometime in 2016.
