Happy news fellow fans of Mulder and Scully! We’ve just found out the ‘The X-Files‘ production and release dates for the series! David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be returning to reprise their most famous roles on film when production begins this coming June.

That’s great but when will it air is the question that I’m sure is on everyone’s mind.

Well, it seems that the first episode will be following the NFL’s NFC Championship game on Sunday, January 24th 2016. The wait won’t be long for the second episode as it will air on the next day, Monday the 25th. From that point on, it will turn to a weekly Monday release. The plan is to be the lead in for the first five episodes of DC’s ‘Lucifer‘ which is most likely being done in hopes that the built in X-Files audience will stick around for another paranormal-ish series. The truth might be out there but we’re under a year from it being on our television sets once again!

According to Chris Carter the series is back after “a 13-year commercial break” and that “the good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

Previously it was stated that we’ll be seeing a tie into the greater mythology as well as stand alone arcs and Fox executives have further cemented that by saying “you will see a combination of episodes” which almost makes me wonder how much of the mythology we’ll actually be getting with such a limited run. I’m eager for the mix of episodes that we’ll be getting but with this potentially being the bookend to the series I just hope we get a little bit more wrapped up.

Of course, this could just be the start of an ongoing set of 6 episode runs and I’d be okay with more ‘X-Files’. I’m sure that while we’ll get a few more details soon that they’ll really start surfacing in June when the new series starts filming. I honestly can’t wait!
