Amazon Prime Video has announced when fans can expect ‘Castle Rock’ Season 2– October 23, which falls on a Wednesday and is just over a week before Halloween. The series is based on the various works of Stephen King. The first season premiered last summer and revolved around the mysterious Shawshank Prison, a missing child and involved parallel dimensions, bird deaths, and of course, murder. Among the King works invoked were “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption,” ‘The Green Mile’, ‘Needful Things’, ‘The Dark Half’, “The Body” (better known by the movie ‘Stand By Me’, ‘Cujo’, ‘The Shining’, ‘Christine’ and many more.
Season two will reportedly center on the growing conflict between Castle Rock and the neighboring Jerusalem’s Lot (a.k.a. ‘Salem’s Lot’ in the novel.) Lizzy Caplan joins the cast as Annie Wilkes the “budding psychopath” from King’s ‘Misery’, while Elsie Fisher portrays her daughter, Joy and Robin Weigert plays her mother. John Hoogenakker portrays “a man with a complicated connection to Annie,” while Sarah Gadon will portray Rita Green, a “vengeful woman” from her past. Ruby Cruz will portray Annie as a child.
J.J. Abrams’ best friend, Greg Grunberg appears as Sheriff Boucher, “a local official, who faces off against a brewing, dark force in Castle Rock.” Paul Sparks will portray John “Ace” Merrill, a character who will be taking over his uncle Reginald “Pop” Merrill’s businesses and threatening a fragile peace with Jerusalem’s Lot. Pop will be played by Tim Robbins. Matthew Alan portrays Chris Merrill, “Pops nephew and Ace’s brother who struggles to keep the peace between the Merrills and the Somali community.” While Ace and Pop originate in King’s works, Chris was created for ‘Castle Rock’.
Also created for the series is Dr. Nadia Omar, played by Yusra Warsama. Dr. Omar is “the Harvard-trained Somali medical director of a rural hospital in Jerusalem’s Lot whose rational and scientific mind will be put to the test,” and Barkhad Abdi appears as Abdi Omar, “Nadia’s tough, older brother who leads the charge to build a Somali community center that will deepen the roots of his people in Maine.”
The cast also includes Alison Wright as Valerie, “a kind-hearted local who explores the town’s evil history.”
