We recently found out that Fox had greenlit a pilot for ‘Lucifer‘ and now we have new details on the series. Not all of them are good news however. The character was initially created by Neil Gaiman for the ‘Sandman‘ universe before getting his own spin-off which sounded to have quite a bit of potential. So what could go wrong about a fallen angel abandoning his post as the Lord of Hell to live it up on Earth? Quite a bit actually.

First is the good news: The series is set to have a lot of great talent behind it. At this time Jerry Bruckheimer and Len Wiseman are in charge of the show as producers which is being put together by Tom Kapinos. Wiseman is directing the pilot though no word if he’ll stick on past being an executive producer if the show is ordered to series.

The bad news: We will be following Lucifer who is unhappy with the post that he has been assigned and resigns his throne to live in Los Angeles. So far, we’re following the series. Only at this point he decides that having a good time means helping the LAPD punish criminals.

Yes. You read that correctly. They are taking Lucifer to Earth and making him part of a police procedural. I mean we already have ‘Gotham‘ and ‘Sleepy Hollow’ covering a comic themed procedural and a paranormal one. Do we really need another? Apparently someone thinks so. I almost feel that this is being pushed through just to compete with some other series that will be based around the Devil.

It really is a shame as an early description of the series held true to the comic:

…the TV series, written and executive produced by Kapinos, centers on Lucifer who, bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he opens an exclusive piano bar called Lux.

Though apparently this take didn’t work for the studio. While it is exciting to see another DC property head to the small screen it seems to be suffering the same fate of the other Vertigo title ‘iZombie’ that will see massive changes from the comic iteration.

I just can’t believe that they are making another police procedural.

Are you looking forward to ‘Lucifer’ being brought to life on the small screen? Are you annoyed that they are changing it so drastically from the source material? Share your thoughts below!
