ABC Family’s new series ‘Shadowhunters‘ based off of ‘The Mortal Instruments’ book series has cast their Clary Fray! Katherine McNamara (‘Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials‘,’Girl Vs. Monster’) will be in the starring role which Lily Collins (‘Priest’,’Mirror Mirror’) had in the film ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones‘. She’ll be joining Dominic Sherwood who was previously cast as Jace in the new series whose pilot is being directed by McG. While the premiere date has not yet been announced, the 13-episodes are set to begin filming soon so I’m sure we’ll be hearing more casting and details in the near future.
The series will focus on Clary Fray who has found out when she turns 18 that being able to vote and the other aspects of adulthood aren’t all that come into play as she isn’t exactly human. At this crucial age she also unlocks the innate powers of being a Shadowhunter that are within her, that is being a human-angel hybrid who is tasked to hunt down the demons who are trying to take over the Earth. Right as her birthday kicks off her mother isn’t able to inform her of her destiny as she is kidnapped and with the help of her best friend Simon and the newly introduced Shadowhunter named Jace she needs to battle vampires, werewolves, and demons in order to save her mother and the world.
We’ve also got a video with McNamara straight from the ‘Shadowhunters’ Instagram account to share with you!
The series will not be a sequel to the film but will instead start from scratch in adapting Cassandra Clare’s novels. Also recently cast has been Alberto Rosende (‘Blue Bloods’,’The Swing of Things’) as Clary’s best friend Simon, and Emeraude Toubia as Isabelle Lightwood who is a Shadowhunter that is “as lethal with a whip as she is beautiful”.
