For everyone dying to know how ‘The Mortal Instruments’ based television series ‘Shadowhunters‘ casting was lining up it seems that Dominic Sherwood (‘Vampire Academy,”Not Fade Away’) has joined the cast as Jace Wayland. Things have been starting to move rapidly since ‘Shadowhunters’ was even announced with McG attached to direct the series. With shooting set to begin this May I have a feeling we’ll be hearing quite a bit more casting news in the coming weeks as well.

The character is described as “narcissistic, and lethally gorgeous, Jace is a determined and expert Shadowhunter. A skilled soldier in a war against demons. After his father is killed, Jace makes it his life mission to seek revenge on the man who is responsible.”

In the series the main character that we’ll be following is 18-year-old Clary Fray who has not yet been cast at this time. Just like in the novels and the movie version ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones‘ she’ll find out that she is not quite who she thought she was. Instead of just a girl she is actually from a long line of Shadowhunters who are half human and half angel that are meant to hunt down demons. When her mother is taken she is drawn into this wood and will work with Jace and her best friend Simon who has also not been cast at this point.

While ABC Family has quite a bit of young adult titles on the network this will be their only ongoing one with a paranormal theme. It will be interesting if this is the beginning of a change of directions for the network to include more genre shows.

Are you looking forward to ‘Shadowhunters’ and think ABC Family can do it justice? Do you feel that the film series should have continued or is a television show better suited for the novel conversions? Share your thoughts below!
