Step aside ‘Marvel’s: Agents of SHIELD,’ there’s a new show coming to town (err, ABC), and it potentially has a bigger fan base.  From the minute Disney bought Lucasfilm the idea of a ‘Star Wars’ TV show has been on their mind, thinking that the show could tie in the movies being produced the same way ‘Agents of SHIELD’ ties into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. And now they say the show is one step closer to coming to fruition, with the rumor being that the only thing holding it back now is the wait for the movies to hit the big screen, to set the stage for the show and provide a world (and sets) for the show to take place in.

A live-action ‘Star Wars’ TV show is an idea that’s been around for many years, with George Lucas first proposing the idea, and supposedly writing dozens of scripts for episodes that would take place between the prequel and original trilogies. The biggest road block for him was finding a home for the series that allowed him to make the show he wanted, where he didn’t have to worry about network censors or execs telling him to do it differently. And after the debacle that was the prequel trilogy, it was no surprise that he could not find that home. What network in their right mind would let Lucas have complete control over an expensive live-action show after the rubbish that was his last 3 ‘Star Wars’ films? And so nothing came of it, until the franchise was sold to Disney, who just happened to own not one but 5 channels (ABC, ABC Family, Disney Channel, Disney XD, and Disney Jr), not counting ESPN (which has always been a closet ‘Star Wars’ fan, just look at the “N” in their logo. I know I’m not the  only one who sees the Boba Fett helmet). And after the success of ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ on Disney XD, I’m sure the ABC network can’t wait to have their own ‘Star Wars’ show.

Back to the subject at hand, the rumors are still just speculation, so nothing has been officially confirmed by the network or Disney itself, but I can’t see a scenario where they would not move forward with the show. The other part of the rumor concerns its production, stating that it would utilize sets and the studio space used by the films (Pinewood Studios), moving in when the movies were on break to shoot the show, which ultimate would suggest that the new show will take place in and around the sequel trilogy. The last bit of information concerns the main character, who “they” say will be a character from a book, whether that be an old expanded universe book or a new ‘Star Wars’ book like ‘Aftermath’ has yet to be confirmed.
