NetherRealms Studios and Warner Bros have announced a companion mobile game for their upcoming ‘Mortal Kombat X.’ Coming in April 2015 to iPads, iPhones, iPod Touches, and Andriod devices, the mobile game (under the same name ‘Mortal Kombat X’) will allow players to play their newest fighting game anytime, anywhere.

“NetherRealm Studios has created a Mortal Kombat X mobile experience that allows more players than ever before to play this over-the-top fighting game through their ever-present smartphones, tablets or other devices,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios. “What’s more, we’ve expanded the unique cross-connectivity feature that links the mobile and console versions of Mortal Kombat X, delivering unique rewards to all players for simply playing the mobile game.”

The mobile game will feature a combination of combat, card collecting, multiplayer fighting, and more. Combat at this time seems to be controlled by swiping movements on the touchscreen as shown in the teaser below. Fatalities, x-ray brutalities, savage graphics, and other fighting aspects will be shared in both games, and will include characters like Scorpion, Raiden, and Sub-Zero as well as new fighters for ‘Mortal Kombat X’. It is not known yet if the same character rooster in the console version of the game will appear in the mobile one.

Players who own a PC or console version of ‘Mortal Kombat X’ can link their mobile version to their free WB Play account to unlock exclusive content within both games by completing achievements and tasks. Again, details on what these achievements will be like or the content that players can receive have not yet been revealed.

The main game, ‘Mortal Kombat X’ will be released on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC on April 14th, with the mobile version being released sometime that month as well. Pre-orders of the game are available now with special perks for those who spend a little (or a lot) extra.
