Beginning last Friday and continuing until March 9th, former players of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV whose accounts are set as inactive can reopen their accounts and play for free.

As the announcement puts it: “If you or any of your friends are currently taking a break from your adventures in Eorzea, this is the perfect opportunity to sample all the latest additions to FINAL FANTASY XIV, including the recently opened Manderville Gold Saucer.”

To celebrate FFXIV’s milestone of four million registered accounts, the Free Login Campaign is a gesture of both gratitude to its players as well as a chance to bring back some of the four million players who had put down the game in the past.

The Free Login period began on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 12:00 a.m. (PST) and will be open until Monday, March 9, 2015 at 1:00 a.m. (PDT). After this time period you will have to continue a subscription if they will to keep playing, so if you want to take advantage of playing for free you only have a short time to do so. Normally subscriptions run from $59.99 for a year, $17.99 for three months, and $9.99 for one month.

Manderville Gold Saucer, the location that FFXIV referred to in its announcement, is a amusement park based off of Gold Saucer from Final Fantasy VII. The park is filled with mini-games that players can participate in together, including Chocobo Racing and Triple Triad, and rewards include different costumes and mounts.

Final Fantasy XIV, also known as Final Fantasy XIV Online ‘A Realm Reborn’, is a MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role-playing game) and can be played on the PS3, PS4, and PC in English, Japanese, German, or French. As their website puts it: “Take part in an epic and ever-changing FINAL FANTASY as you adventure and explore with friends from around the world. Experience all the hallmarks of the best-selling franchise – airships, chocobos, moogles, and more!”
