A little over a year ago, Titan Comics announced that they would be teaming up with BBC Worldwide to produce brand new comics based on the Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctors from the acclaimed British sci-fi staple, ‘Doctor Who.’ Since then, all three series have delivered some really great stories, but now they’ll all intersect in a major crossover event this summer.
Previously, David Tennant and Matt Smith’s Doctors met and teamed up during the show’s unprecedented 50th anniversary in 2013, while Peter Capaldi’s eyebrows only made a cameo in the episode prior to his official debut as the Madman with a Box. But in a few months, all three incarnations of the Time Lord from Gallifrey will star in a five-part storyline this summer in place of their three regular ongoing books. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Paul Cornell would handle the writing duties on the series that will run weekly from mid-August to the end of September. Aside from recently playing a big part in Marvel Comics’ ‘Death of Wolverine’ event, Cornell has written plenty of ‘Doctor Who’ stories since the 2005 revival both onscreen and in comic book form.
Many details, including who the artist will be, are currently being kept under wraps, but we do know that the crossover will also feature each of the Doctors’ companions from their current comic runs. That means that Jenna Coleman’s Clara Oswald will join in on the action alongside comic book originals Gabriella Gonzalez and Alice Obiefune.
And now for the elephant in the room. Many are probably wondering about Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor. First he didn’t take part in the 50th anniversary special and now he’s excluded from this crossover? Well, he’ll be starring in his own mini-series later this year written by ‘Doctor Who’ radio play vet Cavan Scott featuring Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler and John Barrowman’s Captain Jack Harkness as the trio goes on an adventure set somewhere around the ‘Boomtown’ episode.
This special crossover event launches on August 12, 2015, just days before this year’s ‘Doctor Who’ Comics Day on August 15th. Until then, what do you think about the Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctors teaming up for an adventure from Titan Comics? Will you be adding it to your pull list this summer? Let us know in the comments.
