Continuing the ongoing coverage of the upcoming Warner Bros/DC supervillain film is news that Joel Kinnaman (‘The Killing,’ ‘Robocop‘) is talks to take the role of Rick Flagg, the leader of of the team. A while back it had originally been reported that Tom Hardy would be filling the role of Flagg, but he stepped down due to what most surmise was scheduling conflicts as well as a dislike of new versions of the script, which was rumored to now give Flagg less screen-time, with the character turning on his comrades toward the end of the film. How much of this is actually true is anyone’s guess, but whatever the reason, Warner Bros had been dead set on finding a new Rick Flagg quickly, especially after their initial choice to replace Hardy, Jack Gyllenhaal, turned down the role.

At this stage nothing is definite just yet, as the deal could still fall apart, leaving Warner Bros with their other top choices for the role, Joel Edgerton (‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’) and Jon Bernthal (‘Fury,’ ‘The Walking Dead’), both of whom would be interesting choices for the role of Rick Flagg. Considering the big names the rest of the cast is comprised of, with Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, with Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, whoever they get to play Rick Flagg needs to be believable as the leader of the bunch, and needs to be able to hold his own on the screen against any of those names. Regardless, Warner Bros and director David Ayer seem to be making a lot of the right moves in regards to this project, so we can have faith they will find the right man to play Flagg, and keep ‘Suicide Squad’ on track.
