After spending quite a bit of time on the Black List, I’m happy to announce that ‘Passengers’ is finally moving forward with Sony! Not only that, but they have some huge actors in mind for the film.
With Jon Spaihts (‘Doctor Strange‘,’Prometheus‘) on the script, we’ll see that director Morten Tyldum (‘The Imitation Game’,’Headhunters’) already should have some quality writing to work with. Now if they are able to get both Jennifer Lawrence (‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘,’The Hunger Games‘) and Chris Pratt (‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘,’Jurassic World‘) on board, then this is going to be a must see film for quite a few fans out there.
What crazy bit of science fiction is set to get these two potential leading stars together? The film will be set in the future on a spacecraft that is ferrying thousands of passengers to a new world. Only, one of these passengers happens to awaken from cryogenic sleep 90 years early. Oops. Instead of going stir crazy by himself, he ends up waking up a woman. Instead of intense hatred for being woken up, she slowly falls in love with him. Yes, this sci-fi film turns into a love story.
Interesting concept though I’m not sure how believable that sounds on paper.
The film has been in development hell for quite some time with Focus having the US rights when they had Keanu Reeves attached. That clearly fell through and the rights moved onto the Weinstein Co. who ended up passing on the film in 2014. During this time both Reese Witherspoon and Rachel McAdams had been attached to the film. Now that Sony is in charge of things, the film seems to finally be coming together.
