While Jabba the Hutt is long dead it sounds as if the latest rumor has the Hutts making a come back in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’ This extended family of space gangsters has been seen in a variety of other mediums aside from the original trilogy. In the past they’ve shown up in ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace,’ various novels, and ‘Star Wars: Clone Wars.’

The idea of their appearance isn’t a new concept but this is the first we’ve heard of them in Abram’s trilogy. Again, this is just a rumor for now so until we have more news please take it with a grain of salt.

So where is the rumor coming from? Well news from the set is that the Hutts have been built with practical effects. Yes, Hutts as in more than one of the giant slug aliens that have been involved with everyone from the Skywalkers to Solo. While it could be that they are for one of the stand alone films a source did say that “I’m sure their existence could have factored in to them being included, or the expenditure was made because it was all coordinated.” (The creation of these creatures has been happening for over a year.)

A high price tag on some Hutts to be used in one film seems unlikely. There were also early reports of concept art that had Princess Leia taking a meeting with the Hutts. This could lead further credibility to this rumor. It could also prove interesting to see how relations with the Hutts go over as I’m sure we all remember how Leia was not only taken as a slave by Jabba but ended up being the one that ended his life as well.

Are you looking forward to a return of these giant slugs to the ‘Star Wars’ universe or should they have stayed in a film that took place a long time ago in a movie theater far far away?
