Fresh off of last week’s script drama wherein writer Gary Whitta left shortly after finishing the first draft of the screenplay for Gareth Edwards’ upcoming ‘Star Wars’ standalone film, we now have some casting news to further whet our collective appetites for news from the galaxy far, far away. Edwards has begun a search for the actress to play the female lead in the film, with the most prominent ladies in question at this point being Tatiana Maslany (‘Orphan Black‘), Rooney Mara (‘Girl With the Dragon Tatoo’), and Oscar nominee Felicity Jones (‘The Theory of Everything’). The only doubtful actress here is Felicity Jones, who may have a scheduling problem as she is also set to star in Ron Howard’s ‘Inferno,’ the next sequel to the ‘Da Vinci Code.’
The only other news regarding the casting is that it began in the U.K., and that the search has now moved back to the U.S. As for the story itself and what role the actress cast might be playing is anyone’s guess, though I have a theory that would be pretty cool if it happened. Rumor has it that Edwards’ standalone film will be a heist story detailing a group of Bounty Hunters stealing the plans for the original Death Star, during a time period immediately before ‘Star Wars: A New Hope.’ I personally hope that they are casting the role of Aurra Sing, who has been a well-known female Bounty Hunter in the ‘Star Wars’ universe of film and TV shows since ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace,’ though she has never received top billing in a story. It would be great to see her lead the team that steals the Death Star plans, and if the picture above is any indication, the ladies Edwards and company are testing could indeed look the part with a little make-up.
So there you have it, would anyone else like to see Aurra Sing in a starring role? Any other theories on who they might be casting, or if its just going to be an original character? Share your thoughts below!
